The Party at the Inn

She is going through the list, who will she invite. She is very particular, doesn’t want to offend her guests, doesn’t want to upset anyone, mostly herself, it’s an image she has to protect, so she tells herself. The cost of it going wrong, she could lose the friendships of those who can help, her career is all that matters, the money is pouring in, and her manager wants to ensure it keeps that way. He deftly reminds her, the maintenance costs alone are staggering dear, and you love to swim in the pool, she does she admits, things, they can keep her occupied.

She checks the list, all are well to do, there is no need to be embarrassed, everyone will get along fine, she passes the list to her manager for approval, well, he has steered her well so far, she is busier than Elvis in her prime, besides, she had thrown a few dollars into the shelter, a few turkeys and boxes of sweets, they’ll think it Christmas, and she will give her ego a kick.

He reads the statement, the transfer overseas, the pension fund he reminds himself, the accountant is going to get a bonus, the fund is out performing the best estimates, it’s gravy all around. He reads the invitation, another of those parties, he wonders if he will bother, thinks twice, there might be a few worth networking around.

Is it all they do, count money, measure, size up, have they heart, is there any

spirit in them, Solomon imagined God Most High listening to the goings on, the pride and the foolishness of it all, no thought given to the eternal. Some party though….

A knock at the door, the butler purses his lips, she couldn’t possibly know this person, too shabby, and the face, drawn, I’m Mary, she says, a man stands at the gate, she has a bump, move on says the butler, madame has no time for you, he points to a shelter down the road, that’s where your type go. Solomon sighed, was the story of old all about the well being of Spirit, and the welcome it could look forward to, just imagine it…. isn’t a pity it’s only a crisis when there is no way out and never before, damn, wheres the party..?

Train Sets and timetables…

She waits on the platform, checks her watch again, he’s late, but she’s not worried, he is aboard, the last time they met, was at a station just like this. her eyes are anxious, the wait has been long, the hour of arrival has passed, damn those railroad engineers, will they ever get their times right, same as asking all women to give birth at eight in the morning, so the rest of the workers can get on with it, she sighs, here it comes, the light is coming near, she can relax. Solomon sighed, wasn’t life like a train, you wait on the platform, waiting for ever it seems, then the light comes, and suddenly all you thought of, becomes more than real, cause you can feel it. How many had been patient for so long, the efforts of so many, the givers, their patience extended to the lengths of the earth. Smile, the time he encountered the Spirit, real time, it’s on the way, and so the changes are coming, and what is the driving energy, real time love. He heard the sigh in the heart, the words hit the insides that no other gift can give, the miracle of the Spiritual over the material, worth waiting for too….as for those who control, what grief, to think there is Heaven, welcome aboard dudes, I hope you have all been loving…

Scream and Shout….

Do you love me, do you do, run faster Mr Murphy, the sargent is screaming at the new recruits, do you think this is christmas, this is war he shouts, many years later, the old marine recalls the training, the mental stress that was applied, the shouting, the taunts, the bear with us awhile, it will only make you stronger, the words ring bells in his head many years later.

Solomon sighed, spoilt for choice, bored, the excess’s they have to go to, as if they are children with too much free time and money to spend. He recalled the child, tensed up in the corner, eyes wondering, eyes deep in it’s head, as if all life had been taken away, the child does not understand the screams and the shouts, it sure wasn’t this in the beginning, it was sootihng he recalls, they were nice to him…but he is slowing getting used to it, and the Spirit inside is being battered. Meanwhile..

Conscientious mary is at a rally, something to do with christmas songs, and how inappropirate the lyrics of some, they have to be changed to suit the political thinking of the moment. It’s so important to attend the rally, you never know who you might meet afterwards, there might even be a party. Solomon raised his eyebrows to the headline, a christmas song of old, made references to a cold night, and a cosy meeting of a man and woman on a cold christmas night, song idiots decided there was a threat to humanity in the words, another notion of political mad thinking. In the old days, ancient days, language had many meanings, violence meant strength, virgin meant woman without child, and as for other sensibilities, you don’t have to dig.

His Father screams at him, go to bed, your not getting supper till you learn math…

The Friday Rush…

Quick, have to get out, clear the desk, what, you want me to run late, Friday, the office, the weekend ahead, there is work to do, a parent or a singleton, there is only so much time for you to achieve all the stuff that needs doing ,come on, you don’t seriously expect me to work on this, he studies the paper folder, it’s for the boss she says, he knows what that means, initiates in the club, the rise in the ranks, depending on the others, he buries his head in his desk, the weekend can wait.

Maybe, damn, why did I choose this career, he is reading and correcting the text, checks his watch every five minutes, wonders, how late will be, has rang ahead, but still, she is not sure, he wants to get there before anyone else, what If she meets someone else, he presses the buttons, turns the page, six more left, he breathes deep, if wasn’t the reason he wanted to be a professional, a lawyer, he assumed the opposite, free time.

The evening is gone, he has cancelled his life for the evening, Saturday will do, the dream will have to wait, he can blame the Friday rush. She is on the train to home, a two hour commute, it doesn’t bother her, gives her a chance to catch up on me time, she scrolls the phone, those she hasn’t had contact with in awhile, she’ll give them a hello, its important to remain in touch. Saturday belongs to the children.

Rush here, busy, too tired, jaded, had enough, the pills don’t work, damn, the days, your getting older, the night isn’t over, what am I doing it all for, it’s not doing my health any good, and the only friends I meet are online; she feels like a processed fish, amen.

Solomon sighed, Friday, the world slows, friends get to know each other, the memories that hold you together, at least your not alone. It was simple if you believed and no rush. The rain stopped, the calm came, the prayers are answered, there are smiles on faces, there is the sense of divine intervention, what’s all the Friday rush for, relax…he was digging into his eggs Benedict afternoon treat, with the best Hollandaise sauce he ever tasted, the world does not exist outside when your engrossed in such flavors.

School Child

Sits proud, a smile on his face, they are reading his poem, inside it feels good, to be acknowledged, and told you are good, he bites his lip as the praise comes, it’s the stuff he needs to hear at home, but school will do, his teacher is generous in heart, has empathy for her charges, does whatever she can, likes to laugh. The school bell goes, he puts his books into his satchel, teacher smiles as he goes out the door, well done young man. His father has no time for education, is always complaining, put down by his own father, he is passing on the lessons learned to his son, that’s the way it goes, thank God for great school teachers.

On the walk home, he swings his bag, stares at the trees, birds live in them, there is a cow in the field, moo he says, the cow shakes his head. The need for expression, and the fear in being vulnerable, the minute he gets in the door, he wonders if she will be drinking, the dread, her insults will pass over him like water in a stream, his mind and emotions set on that moment in class, the admiring looks of his fellow pupils and teachers.

Solomon sighed, how a little encouragement works the oracle, amen. Best of all.

Jesus and His Brothers and Sisters

Recognized fact, Jesus had and has family, it’s written in the ancient books, more than a few references, imagine, the child with Spirit, has none of the modern day influences in his life, spirit has time to find deep roots, so few temptations, Where’s Jesus shouts his mother when one of the brothers comes in after a hard day in the fields, isn’t he supposed to be helping you, the brother shakes his head, he’s in the synagogue ma, again she sighs, a few of the brothers accompany the mother, Ma, what are you going to say, he has to eat with his own brothers now and again, the difficulties families have, an everyday experience…

What made Jesus connect with so many, he didn’t set himself apart, saw everyone equally, Jesus and his brothers and sister, the stuff his mother had to put up with, where is he now?, and in terms so simple said it was inside you, all that was good and bad, it’s your choice, amen.

Putting a smile on the face of children, a real one, is something to be taken so seriously, amen. Ah ma, i’ll be home in the next half hour, these geezers with the long beards are slow in the up take, they need learning mam, you tell ’em son!

Fires in California,Migrants on the Move,Chaos in London,Rescue ship being seized in Italy….

Look at the screen Bob, the world is imploding before our very eyes, Bob shakes his head, it’s cold and wet, and they are standing outside looking in, outside a TV store, they’ve lost their way sometime back, both veterans of the Desert Wars, look what it’s done.

Are you looking forward to Christmas, she wants a smile from the kid, she is visiting a friend, if she gets a smile she’ll feel good as if she’s done something, wont you smile for me she says, all he see’s is her double chin and those thick lens glasses, what have you to smile about he thinks.

Bob and Jim walk to the shelter, it’s a mid week day, so there should be no trouble getting in, Jim is on about the end of the world, Bob wants a warm meal and a bed, doesn’t it concern you he says, passing another TV store, slowing to have a look, what are we going to do about it then!

A concert for the victims, the line of script runs across the screen, a hundred different stars have already signed up, Bob shakes his head, how many ever went to war, they give what they don’t need nothing more, hear about Cindy he asks, you mean the young mother with the three year old kid?

Chaos in Italy too Bob, they are after seizing that rescue ship, Jim frowns, what is that old fool talking of, Italy Bob, the one that was rescuing the drowning people and giving them the medical help, you mean they set up a veterans hospital in the med, what are our navy doing.

Shelters, causes, big concerts, zealots, poor Cindy was waiting in the shelter, imagine, with a child too, she goes out one day and this guy comes over, hands her a ticket, next thing she wins the lottery. A car pulls up at the kerb, Bob looks down, thinks it’s the police, there is a no loitering sign…

The window rolls down, what are you waiting for, It’s Cindy they smile… what about the shelter, the others…

Back to School

I’m making so much money what have I to learn he thought, dumb, why don’t you go make a buck, telling us we need to go back to school, stupid, a caravan of refugees marching towards the border, what do they expect, a welcoming committee, I’ll give them a, can’t say that either, he puts the magnum back in the drawer. America is becoming such a wheeze, allowing people in those far off places worry us, what’s up. Big mouth shuts up, the teacher is in class, back to school she says. The assembly, all drunk drivers caught in the act, doing their penance, well, it’s three months in detention otherwise.

Why are you here she says, money mouth cringes, thick bitch, who does she think she is, the President, speaks under his breath, she picks it up, Money she says, will you shut up, and listen. The smell of greed, same as the scent you get when all worked up, the buzz. We don’t want you repeating your old ways, do we, the class nods. They were all involved in serious accidents, they escaped this time.  The more you repeat a habit, the more it becomes you, money mouth sighs, I could be making money rather than listening to this. You too money she says, catching him again, one thing on his mind.

Advertising works, none of the drivers were ever heard of again in law enforcement circles. If only we could apply the wisdom to only habits; in time sighed Solomon.

Silencing the Doubters…

What will I say, how will I defend myself, what are the options, the young apostle is asking the question many have on their minds, they are being sent out, he wonders what the support package includes, this is a risk filled world, they have traps baited, and they expect the new recruits to fail. The master answers, I will send you the Holy Spirit, He will give you all the answers, and if that doesn’t convince them, I will remove the obstacles, you just have to believe.  The usual suspects laugh as they see the line of believers, there is a rather cynical attitude prevailing in the minds of those who have controlled the scene for a long time. They have used every trick in the book, to undermine the confidence and faith of the believers. spied, tried to harm emotionally, searched histories, did their worst, the repeating signs in the heavens, have made them wary, this one seems better prepared, they are tentative. they use those at the bottom of their pile to taunt and annoy, they even make promises to family.

Young Slim, is in bed, it’s the night before the big day, when he will set out, the next pioneer, the little turtle trying to get to the life giving water before being eaten. The vultures wait, waiting for him to appear, easy pickings, once he is out of the shelter he is ours. Ever see one of those Clint Eastwood movies, well, just imagine yourself in it. Remember the residents of Nazareth, wasn’t he the carpenter’s son,  how could he be any good, a Son of God, give us a break, they spit on the ground, waiting to undermine. Well, the turtle got to the water, David toppled Goliath, and all the old empires ended in the dust, and now, two thousand years later, the changes going on, are overwhelming many, and they all point to what was written in the past.

Solomon smiled, What is Spirit, and why do those in situ spend most of their time trying to undo it, while trying to maintain their own, isn’t that very narcistic, as if they thought the change would never come. Silence the doubters prayed Solomon, the Spirit crises out, amen.

Mess Up for Heaven’s Sake

She is an addicted cleaner, she spots dirt, she blows a fuse, her temperature rises, it’s as if she has spotted a demon, out comes the chemical rescue, a squirt here and there, got ya she smiles, while killing anything organic nearby, will you leave me in peace he says, she has the brush under his feet, he is trying to watch TV. She doesn’t listen, this has been the way for years. Solomon sighed, those were the days, a memory that makes him laugh, it wasn’t anything to be shy about.

Being an educator, you can’t make a cake without creating a mess, same way you can’t teach a child without getting upset, difference is, what comes out of the oven. The boy is small, a learner, just imitates and wants to get on with life, pulls a chair to the sink, playing with water, everyone small loves it, the splash and the mess. Roll up your sleeves, the boy turns his head, will you shut up he says, there is a smile on his face,  i said roll up your sleeves, I don’t do laundry.

The mess continues, there is water on the floor, there is water everywhere, are you finished yet, the child is washing the dishes, placing them on the side, Solomon is watching carefully, doesn’t want the kid to slip, eventually, eventually, the wash up is done, it’s time to negotiate. The dinner is always a task, how do you get them to eat healthy, do you remember the wash up he says, the child nods, doesn’t notice the spoon in the air, open up, the boy opens his mouth, another mouthful gone.

Mess up for heaven’s sake, there is bargaining power in it, it’s not just mess, it’s real learning. The mothers look at Solomon, what do you know about feeding children, he sighs, there is a cake on the table, he reaches for it, not before you have eaten your dinner they say, i suppose.
